Violence against women in Paraíba:: an approach to homicide cases in the period from 2011 to 2017

The objective of the present study is to verify the behavior of homicides against women in the state of Paraíba between 2011 and 2017. For that, data from the Public Security and Social Defense Secretariat of Paraíba are used. The data analysis is of the descriptive quantitative type and was constructed from graphs and tables. The results show that between 2011 and 2017 there was a contraction of 45.75% in the deaths of women. In addition, the proportion of female deaths is 7.8% of the total death. In turn, most of the crimes are committed by firearms (63.6%) and white weapons (22.3%) respectively. The most frequent age is 30 years and, finally, the mortality rate per group of 100 thousand inhabitants reduced 47.5% for the cases of female deaths in the period. This contraction may be related to the implementation of combative and local public policies such as the "Paraíba United for Peace" program, the creation of Women's Reference Centers and, finally, the implementation of "shelter" units to host victims of domestic violence.
