Popular education and youth: the social movement as an educational space

Resumo: This study aimed to understand how the subjects, in the course of their life stories and through mainly experiential learning processes, built knowledge and awareness through participation in a social movement. Therefore, a qualitative study, using semi-structured interviews, was carried out to obtain narratives of the life stories of six participants in a Brazilian movement that unifies young people nationwide: the Levante Popular da Juventude [Popular Youth Uprising]. The study allowed the understanding of how the educational experience of participation in social movements favors the emancipation of the subjects who experience it, and leads to an awareness of participatory citizenship in the face of local and global reality.

Con este fin, se realizó una investigación cualitativa, utilizando entrevistas semiestructuradas, para obtener narraciones de historias de vida de seis participantes de un movimiento brasileño que reúne a jóvenes de todo el país: el Levante Popular de la Juventud. La investigación realizada nos permite comprender cómo la experiencia educativa vivida en los movimientos sociales favorece la emancipación de los sujetos que la experimentan y conduce a una conciencia sobre la ciudadanía participativa frente a la realidad local y global.L’objectif de cette étude était de comprendre comment les sujets, au cours de leurs vie et par le biais de processus, en particulier ceux ayant trait à l’apprentissage expérientiel, ont construit des savoirs et des connaissances grâce à leur participation à un mouvement social. Des entretiens semi-structurés on été réalisés dans le cadre d’une recherche qualitative afin de recueillir des récits de vie de six participants à un mouvement social brésilien, le Levante Popular da Juventude, qui rassemble des jeunes dans tout le pays. Cette recherche a permis de mieux comprendre comment l’expérience éducative vécue au sein de mouvements sociaux favorise l’émancipation des sujets et conduit à une prise de conscience de ce qu’est la citoyenneté participative face à la réalité à la fois locale et globale.Este estudo teve por objetivo compreender como os sujeitos, no decurso de suas histórias de vida e por meio de processos sobretudo de aprendizagem experiencial, construíram saberes e conhecimentos na participação em um movimento social. Para tal, foi realizada uma pesquisa qualitativa, com recurso a entrevistas semiestruturadas, para obter narrativas de histórias de vida de seis participantes de um movimento brasileiro que reúne jovens em todo o país: o Levante Popular da Juventude.
