Resumo: | This article addresses the work of teaching, based on a section of a Master’s degree study performed in a school of a private network in suburban Rio de Janeiro, which serves the new middle class. Interviews with eight teachers from the first segment of elementary education of the institution, and the observation of the space in the teachers’ room, were the main methodological strategies used. Specifically, the working conditions of the teachers and the way in which professional development proceeds were investigated. Evidence was seen of the precariousness of teaching as a function of the low salaries, the intensifying of tasks, the lack of a professional development policy, and an organizational logic that does not facilitate the sharing of knowledge among teachers. Additionally, that organizational logic, based on devices to control the meeting of deadlines and the practice of teaching, and guided by pedagogic manuals and educational software, compromises the autonomy of the teachers and the development of a climate of collaboration. |

El artículo aborda el trabajo docente desde el punto de vista de una investigación de maestría realizada en una escuela de la red privada del suburbio de Rio de Janeiro, que atiende a la nueva clase media. Entrevistas con ocho maestras del primer segmento de educación básica de la institución y la observación del espacio de la sala de profesores fueron las principales estrategias metodológicas utilizadas. Se investigaron sobre todo las condiciones de trabajo de las profesoras y la forma en que se procesa el desarrollo profesional. Se puso de manifiesto la precarización del trabajo docente en función de los bajos salarios, de la intensificación de las tareas, de la ausencia de una política de formación y de una lógica organizativa que no favorece la puesta en común de los saberes entre los profesores. Además, esta lógica organizativa, que se basa en dispositivos de regulación en el cumplimiento de plazos, de control de la práctica docente y se orienta por manuales pedagógicos y softwares educativos, compromete la autonomía de las maestras y el desarrollo de un clima colaborativo. O artigo aborda o trabalho docente a partir do recorte de uma pesquisa de mestrado realizada numa escola da rede privada do subúrbio carioca, que atende à nova classe média. Entrevistas com oito professoras do primeiro segmento do ensino fundamental da instituição e a observação do espaço da sala de professores foram as principais estratégias metodológicas usadas. Investigaram-se, particularmente, as condições de trabalho das professoras e como se processa o desenvolvimento profissional. Evidenciou-se a precarização do trabalho docente em função dos baixos salários, da intensificação das tarefas, da ausência de uma política de formação e de uma lógica organizacional que não favorece o partilhar dos saberes entre os professores. Além disso, essa lógica organizacional, fundada em dispositivos de regulação no cumprimento de prazos, de controle da prática docente e orientada por manuais pedagógicos e softwares educativos, compromete a autonomia das professoras e o desenvolvimento de um clima colaborativo.
