Race-based affirmative actions and the role played by the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo

Resumo: This article intends to show the role played by the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo in discussions on race-based affirmative actions in higher education. First, discussions are presented based on the conception focused on initiatives to reduce racial inequalities. Then, the newspaper publications on affirmative actions in higher education are analyzed. The screening of the publications of Folha de S.Paulo showed that the newspaper, not just through its editorials, is against affirmative policies, especially those race-based. Furthermore, the analysis of the discussions presented allowed to visualize the three reactive/reactionary theses by Hirschman.

En primer lugar se presentan las discusiones vinculadas a los diseños defendidos para acciones que se destinan a la reducción de las desigualdades raciales. Luego se analizan las publicaciones del periódico relativas al tema de las acciones afirmativas en la educación superior brasileña. El rastreo de las publicaciones de Folha de S.Paulo puso de manifiesto que el diario se posiciona contra las políticas afirmativas, especialmente las raciales, y no tan solo por medio de los editoriales. Además, el análisis de las discusiones presentadas permitió la visualización de las tres tesis reactivas/reaccionarias de Hirschman.L’objectif de cet article est de montrer comment le journal Folha de S.Paulo a participé aux débats concernant la discrimination raciale positive dans l’enseignement supérieur brésilien. D’abord seront presentées les discussions autour des conceptions des initiatives visant la réduction des inégalités raciales. Ensuite seront analysées les publications du journal sur le thème des actions positives dans l’enseignement supérieur brésilien. Le suivi des publications de Folha de S.Paulo a montré que le journal prend position, au délà des editoriaux, contraire aux politiques de discrimination positive en particulier celles ayant trait à la discrimination raciale. En outre, l’analyse des débats a permis de repérer les trois thèses réactives ou réactionnaires de Hirschman.Este artigo pretende mostrar como o jornal Folha de S.Paulo atuou nas discussões sobre as ações afirmativas raciais no ensino superior brasileiro. Primeiro, são apresentadas as discussões em torno das concepções defendidas para ações voltadas à diminuição das desigualdades raciais. Em seguida, são analisadas as publicações do jornal direcionadas ao tema das ações afirmativas no ensino superior brasileiro. O rastreamento das publicações da Folha de S.Paulo mostrou que o jornal posiciona-se contra as políticas afirmativas, especialmente as raciais, não apenas por meio dos editoriais.
