Resumo: In this article we identify the specific situations that experience those old adult women who take charge of attending their relatives, also elderly, with serious health problems. To this purpose we interviewed family attendants that, due to this situation of caring, needed the support of specific social programs. The interviews have had the purpose of detecting the strategies they have devised to give answer to the needs of the dependent elder, the costs just economic as well as emotional and of health that these strategies imply for the attendants and an evaluation of their success or failure in relation with the life quality of the elder attended and the elder attendant. To this end, the type and support networks in the care, the family tensions, the financial aspects (the weight in the family budget) and the role of the community resources are analysed.

Con esta finalidad entrevistamos a cuidadoras familiares que, producto de esta situación de cuidado, necesitaron el apoyo de programas sociales específicos. Las entrevistas han tenido como finalidade detectar las estrategias que han ideado para dar respuesta a las necesidades del anciano dependiente, los costos de tipo tanto económico, como afectivo y de salud que estas estrategias implican para las cuidadoras y una evaluación del éxito o fracaso de las mismas en función de la calidad de vida tanto del anciano cuidado como de la cuidadora mayor de edad. Para ello se analizan el tipo y redes de apoyo en el cuidado, las tensiones familiares, los aspectos financieros (el peso en el presupuesto familiar) y el papel de los recursos comunitarios.Neste artigo identificamos as situações específicas experimentadas por mulheres idosas que se encarregam de cuidar de seus familiares também idosos, com graves problemas de saúde. Com essa finalidade entrevistamos cuidadoras que, em função dessa situação, precisaram do apoio de programas sociais específicos. A finalidade das entrevistas foi detectar as estratégias elaboradas para responder às necessidades do idoso dependente, os custos, tanto econômicos como afetivos e de saúde, que essas estratégias implicam para as cuidadoras, e uma avaliação de seu sucesso ou fracasso em função da qualidade de vida, tanto do idoso cuidado quanto da cuidadora idosa.
