Analysis of the deprivation index of basic education schools in Rio Grande do Sul

Resumo: The quality of education can be evaluated from several aspects, including the observation of access to material resources and human capital. The present study aims to estimate an index of infrastructural deprivation in basic education schools in Rio Grande do Sul. To this end, we used data from the 2018 School Census, adapting the Alkire-Foster method to assess the nature of school deprivation. Of the 10,066 schools operating in the state, about half face constraints in eight or more indicators (of the 24) selected for analysis. The worst performance among schools in the state of Rio Grande do Sul was in the composition of the variables of the dimension “Conditions of Student Assistance Services”. Rural schools have the greatest infrastructural deprivation.

La calidad de la educación puede evaluarse bajo varios aspectos, entre ellos la observación del acceso a los recursos materiales y al capital humano. El presente estudio tiene como objetivo estimar un índice de carencias de infraestructura de las escuelas de educación básica en Rio Grande do Sul. Para ello, son utilizados los datos del Censo Escolar de 2018 en una adaptación del método Alkire-Foster para evaluar la naturaleza de las carencias escolares. De las 10.066 escuelas que funcionan en el estado gaucho, cerca de la mitad se enfrenta a limitaciones en ocho o más indicadores (de los 24) seleccionados para el análisis. El peor desempeño de las escuelas del estado gaucho se observó en la composición de las variables de la dimensión “Condiciones de los Servicios en la Asistencia Estudiantil”. Las escuelas con mayores carencias de infraestructura son las escuelas rurales. A qualidade da educação pode ser avaliada sob vários aspectos, incluindo a observação do acesso aos recursos materiais e ao capital humano. O presente estudo visa a estimar um índice de privação infraestrutural das escolas do ensino básico do Rio Grande do Sul. Para tanto, são utilizados os dados do Censo Escolar de 2018 em uma adaptação do método Alkire-Foster para avaliar a natureza das privações escolares. Das 10.066 escolas em operação no estado, cerca de metade enfrenta constrangimentos em oito ou mais indicadores (dos 24) selecionados para análise. O pior desempenho das escolas do estado gaúcho foi percebido na composição das varáveis da dimensão “Condições dos serviços em assistência estudantil”. As escolas com maior privação infraestrutural são as rurais.
