The public library as an enabler of the UN's 2030 agenda

The 2030 Agenda was developed by the United Nations (UN), together with 193 country members, organized civil society and key institutions to seek a planet with sustainability and quality of life for future generations.  It is an action plan that seeks to strengthen universal peace and eradicate poverty in all its forms and dimensions.  It encompasses proposals to improve the lives of people and the planet, in search of prosperity and peace through the 5 pillars of the Sustainable Development Goals.  In a joint effort, the International Federation of Library Association and Institutions (IFLA) calls on all interested parties to recognize that libraries, in all parts of the world, can be a reliable mechanism for working towards the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) recommended by 2030 Agenda. This article aims to identify actions carried out by the Municipal Public Library Josué Guimarães (BPMJG) that can contribute to achieving the goals of 2030 Agenda. The cultural actions and services offered by the Library in the period from 2016 to 2019 were investigated. As for the method, an applied, qualitative research is presented, in which the case study shows that the BPMJG is aligned with the 2030 Agenda and acts in 12 of the 17 SDGs proposed in the Agenda.
