Organizational Culture under the Perspective of the Brazilian Regional Culture

Resumo: This essay has the objective of analyzing the Brazilian cultural context and its influence on the organizations universe from a cultural regional perspective that goes beyond the functionalist paradigm and advances through contemporary concepts, like cultural flows and the local cultural codes. In an international perspective, in studies that consider the perspective of cultural adaptation, it is possible finding a significant volume of research that emphasizes the distinctions between regions or nations. On the other hand, when it these studies deal with this perspective inside each culturally diversified country it seems that there isn’t the same expression in the rural areas. In Brazil there isn’t the same intensity of effort of research. Besides, in our country the cultural diversity is recognized, and the analyses that consider the influences of the culture variable can potentially contribute for the efficiency of the organization’s internal and external relations. It is defended that organizations need to contemplate in their actions what it is called local cultural legitimacy, especially when these organizations work in distinct contexts, respecting the local values and cultural practices. Brazil has different cultural regions where it is possible finding different consumers and employees and distinct cultural codes that indicate the need of different forms of management.Key words: Organizational culture. Cultural legitimacy.  Este ensayo tiene como objetivo analizar el contexto cultural brasileño y su influencia en el universo organizacional desde una perspectiva cultural regional que no se limite a la visión funcionalista, y avance por medio de conceptos contemporáneos como las corrientes culturales y los códigos culturales locales. Desde el punto de vista internacional los estudios comparativos que trabajan con la perspectiva de adaptación cultural ya presentan significativa magnitud de investigaciones que acentúan la distinción entre regiones o naciones. Pero, cuando se trata esa perspectiva dentro de países con diversidad cultural, parece que todavía no hay en el campo la misma expresión. En los países en los que se reconoce la diversidad cultural, como Brasil, los análisis que tengan en cuenta las influencias de esta variable pueden contribuir a la eficiencia de las relaciones internas y externas de la organización. Defendemos la necesidad de que las organizaciones contemplen en sus acciones lo que llamamos legitimidad cultural local, cuando las organizaciones actúan en distintos contextos respetando los valores y las prácticas culturales locales. Las diferentes culturas regionales que se encuentran en Brasil se reflejan en los hábitos de los consumidores, en el comportamiento social y en las actitudes y desempeño de las personas en el trabajo, y esto efectivamente requiere diferentes y variadas prácticas de gestión.Palavras clave: Cultura organizacional. Legitimidad cultural.Esse ensaio tem como objetivo analisar o contexto cultural brasileiro e a sua influência no universo organizacional a partir de uma perspectiva cultural regional que não se limite à visão funcionalista e avance por meio de conceitos contemporâneos como os fluxos culturais e os códigos culturais locais. Do ponto de vista internacional, os estudos comparativos que trabalham com a perspectiva de adaptação cultural já apresentam um volume significativo de pesquisas que enfatizam as distinções entre regiões ou nações. Mas, quando se trata dessa perspectiva dentro de países culturalmente diversos, parece ainda não haver no campo a mesma expressão. Em países em que é reconhecida a diversidade cultural, como o Brasil, análises que levem em conta as influências dessa variável podem contribuir para a eficiência das relações internas e externas da organização. Arguimos a necessidade das organizações contemplarem em suas ações o que chamamos de legitimidade cultural local, quando as organizações atuam em distintos contextos respeitando os valores e as práticas culturais locais. As diferentes culturas regionais encontradas no Brasil se refletem nos hábitos dos consumidores, no comportamento social e nas atitudes e desempenho das pessoas no trabalho, o que requer efetivamente diferentes e variadas práticas de gestão.Palavras-chave: Cultura organizacional.
