Resumo: | Purpose – This article aims to investigate the fears of entrepreneurialwomen in consolidated businesses, in view of the current volatilepolitical and economic situation in Brazil.Design/methodology/approach – We chose a qualitative andinterpretative approach, using in-depth interviews with expertentrepreneurs with already consolidated businesses as the data collectiontechnique. We did not define the categories a priori, but instead theyemerged inductively from what the interviewees said.Findings – The findings indicate that the fears present in entrepreneurialactivities go beyond those related to opening a business and itscontinuity, such as fear of bankruptcy. We noticed that during theentrepreneurial trajectory, fears alter and can be grouped into thefollowing categories: fears related to the future of the enterprise andthe entrepreneur; specific fears concerning the business sector; fearsrelated to financial aspects. The economic instability in Brazil seemsto be an aggravating factor and was present at all times in the women’sstatements.Originality/value – The theoretical contribution of this study lies inthe finding that there are fears that can change as the woman and theenterprise mature. This finding goes beyond the fears commonly foundin the literature, which are the fear of opening a new business and thatof failure or bankruptcy. This study is aligned with those that addressthe emotions that permeate entrepreneurial activities. By identifyingthat women have different types of fears over time, the study could,as a practical contribution, lead to business training programs that, inaddition to technical aspects, also include emotional dimensions tobetter prepare entrepreneurial women. |

By identifyingthat women have different types of fears over time, the study could,as a practical contribution, lead to business training programs that, inaddition to technical aspects, also include emotional dimensions tobetter prepare entrepreneurial women.
