Resumo: The ideas of Juan Bautista Alberdi and Justo Sierra were developped in parallel with the economic development and social modernization processes that occurred in Argentina and Mexico at the end of the 19th century. But their influence has exceeded these elitist modernizing movements, since the vast and heterogeneous liberal currents in which they were involved have inspired the political democratization of their countries at the beginning of XXh century.
