Resumo: This article intends to analyze the theoretical and methodological problems of using the concept of kinship in the study of ruling groups. It is, firstly, a counterpoint between the analyzes that are based on the notion of “large families” and how they are centered on “family-based networks” based on the concept of “extended family” and “kinship”. And, secondly, to describe the weight of the alliance system for understanding the conditions for the emergence and transformation of the “family base networks” of Sergipe's elite politics. The results show the heuristic value of the concept of kinship for apprehending the conditions and dynamics of formation of leading groups.

Se trata, en primer lugar, de un contrapunto entre los análisis que se basan en la noción de “familias numerosas” y cómo se centran en “redes familiares” basadas en los conceptos de “familia extensa” y “parentesco”. Y, en segundo lugar, describir el peso del sistema de alianzas para comprender las condiciones para el surgimiento y la transformación de las “redes de base familiar” de la élite política de Sergipe. Los resultados muestran el valor heurístico del concepto de parentesco para aprehender las condiciones y dinámicas de formación de grupos dirigentes.Este artigo pretende analisar os problemas teóricos e metodológicos da utilização do conceito de parentela no estudo dos grupos dirigentes. Trata-se, primeiramente, de fazer um contraponto entre as análises que têm como base a noção de “grandes famílias” e as que se centram nas “redes de base familiar” fundadas no conceito de “família extensa”, e “parentela”. E, em segundo, de descrever o peso do sistema de alianças para a compreensão das condições de emergência e de transformação das “redes de base familiar” da elite política de Sergipe.
