Brazil in the Continent and in the World: Actors and Images in Contemporary Foreign Policy

This article aims at recomposing the perceptions of some major policy-makers that have been in charge of contemporary Brazilian foreign policy, with emphasis in their views on continental and international Brazilian insertion. The choice of such actors was based on their paradigmatic role and on the assumption that their perceptions are in fact representative of the images political national elites have on the subject. There is also the concern of retrieving as aspect that has been little explored in studies on Brazilian foreign policy, that is, the subjective factors influencing policies definition and implementation. On the other hand, the historic approach allows to establish some kind of correlation between the images and beliefs that nourish the perceptions and the historic processes that generate them.
