Resumo: | In an exploration of Oliveira Viana's thought, the articles concentrates on three points: his view of history, his Brazilian roots, and his variety of social utopia. As to the first point, it is argued that for Viana history is in large part conjecture and has practical objectives. As to the second, the article shows Viana's link to the line of thought originated by the Viscount of Uruguay. Regarding the third point, it is contended that Viana distanced himself from Uruguay's conservative liberalism, from Tavares Bastos's American liberalism, and from totalitarianism. His idea of utopia was the hierarchical, cooperative, incorporating society of the Iberian Catholic tradition, adapted to the modern capitalism world. |

Editora FGV1991-07-30info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.fgv.br/reh/article/view/2310Revista Estudos Históricos; Vol. 4 No. 7 (1991): Travel and Narrative; 82-99Revista Estudos Históricos; v. 4 n. 7 (1991): Viagem e Narrativa; 82-992178-14940103-2186reponame:Estudos Históricos (Rio de Janeiro)instname:Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV)instacron:FGVporhttps://periodicos.fgv.br/reh/article/view/2310/1449Carvalho, José Murilo deinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2017-08-17T18:55:34Zoai:ojs.periodicos.fgv.br:article/2310Revistahttps://periodicos.fgv.br/rehONGhttps://periodicos.fgv.br/reh/oai||biblioteca.digital@fgv.br||eh@fgv.br2178-14940103-2186opendoar:2024-03-06T13:01:47.526700Estudos Históricos (Rio de Janeiro) - Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV)true |
