Quality of life and `post-management shock¿ managerial stress: the Copasa-MG case

Resumo: | This article describes and analyzes the management team of a public company in terms of quality of life at the workplace and occupational stress variables. The con- text of reorganization includes multiple impacts in the managers¿ activities and the meanings they give to this experience, with implications to their health. A descriptive survey was performed considering both quantitative and qualitative approaches among 144 managers. Of those, 96 (the sample) answered the questionnaire, which was the main data collection tool. In general terms, the levels of quality of life at the workplace were satisfactory. However, occupational stress was identified. As a result, there is a need to structure people management policies and practices in order to identify, demystify and monitor occupational stress among managers, including more specific diagnostic research. These activities are additional resources to the productive reorganization in course, therefore they are connected to the management of the work force and of conflicts. |

These activities are additional resources to the productive reorganization in course, therefore they are connected to the management of the work force and of conflicts.Este artigo descreve e analisa o corpo gerencial de uma empresa pública no que diz respeito às variáveis de qualidade de vida no trabalho e de estresse ocupacional, tendo em vista o contexto de reestruturação produtiva e seus multivariados impactos nas atividades dos gestores e nos significados atribuídos a essas experiências de trabalho, implicando desgastes à saúde dos indivíduos. Foi feita uma pesquisa descritiva, de enfoque quantitativo e qualitativo. O questionário foi respondido por 96 dos 144 gestores. De uma maneira geral, a qualidade de vida dos pesquisados apresenta-se com níveis satisfatórios. A partir de uma análise conjunta dos resultados, aponta-se para uma realidade de estresse. Assim, a estruturação de políticas e práticas de gestão de pessoas mais abrangentes é necessária para a identificação, a desmistificação e o monitoramento do estresse ocupacional entre os gerentes da empresa, passando por pesquisas mais específicas de diagnóstico.
