Resumo: This paper presents the results of an investigation on the implications of organizational variables in the adoption of technological innovations. The survey — a case study of a public organization — focused on the deployment of geographic data systems in Blumenau City Hall (state of Santa Catarina, Brazil). It considered the following characteristics: organizational structure and culture, availability of material and/or financial resources, technical and internal process determinants, management type, the formation of teams, and political and institutional interferences. Considering the restrictions found in the analysis of a single case, a few hypothesis were established to be tested in a later stage.
