Substantive approach and communicative action: a fruitful complementarity for the organizational theory

This paper develops a new conceptual outlook based on the complementarity between the substantive approach elaborated by Guerreiro Ramos and the theory of communicative action established by Habermas. It intends to demonstrate how this complementarity takes place and to identify the potentiality of its application, considering the redirection of the organizational theory. One of the areas where this complementarity can offer a strong contribution is the analysis of the rationality in productive organizations.To illustrate this possibility, the author proposes an analytical framework and demonstrates its application in two companies in Salvador. The paper concludes by defining the concept of substantive organization.
