Power consumption management at home: a case study using questionnaires

This paper describes a case study that took place in order to identify the consumers' potential to save electric power at home, having in mind the possibility of adopting in the near future DSM programs in Brazil with residential consumers. A thousand customers randomly selected in the cities of Joinville, Blumenau, São José, and Florianópolis, in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil, were mailed questionnaires with topics on energy  conservation, power plant construction, the possibility of an energy crisis, social, environmental and political consciousness, and social-economic characteristics of the household. Df those, 420 questionnaires were returned, which is a very significant sample of respondents in a survey like this. It was thus possible to analyze the data and, with the help of multivariate statistical analysis, test the hypotheses of interest.
