Dual career couples and their inclinations regarding work and family: the Brazilian scenario

Resumo: This study aims to explore the database of the National Household Sample Survey (PNAD) produced by the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) in order to investigate how couples from a dual-career perspective approach the demands of home and work. The study uses a quantitative-descriptive analysis of secondary data to update the model proposed by Berlato (2015), in which typologies were delineated from a sample of dual-career couples who were former students of a state university in São Paulo. From a sample of 890 individuals derived from the PNAD, it was possible to observe the predominance of traditional characteristics among Brazilian couples. Despite the suggestion of social change that comes with the dual-career phenomenon, there are still some features that accentuate gender disparities in the country.

Despite the suggestion of social change that comes with the dual-career phenomenon, there are still some features that accentuate gender disparities in the country.El objetivo de este trabajo es explorar la base de datos proveniente de la Investigación Nacional por Muestra de Domicilios (PNAD) a fin de investigar la manera como parejas bajo la óptica de la dual career se inclinan ante las demandas de la casa y del trabajo. Por medio de un análisis cuantitativo-descriptivo de los datos secundarios de la investigación se buscó actualizar el modelo propuesto por Berlato (2015), en el cual se delinearon tipologías para los brasileños a partir de una muestra de parejas de doble carrera exestudiantes de una universidad estatal de São Paulo. A partir de una muestra de 890 individuos derivada de la PNAD, se observó la predominancia de características tradicionales en las inclinaciones de la pareja brasileña, que a pesar del carácter de cambio social que la doble carrera trae consigo, se encontraron algunos rasgos que acentúan las disparidades entre los géneros en el país.O objetivo desse trabalho se pauta em explorar a base de dados proveniente da Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra de Domicílios (PNAD) a fim de se investigar a maneira como casais sob a ótica da dual career se inclinam diante das demandas da casa e do trabalho. Por meio de uma análise quantitativo-descritiva dos dados secundários da pesquisa buscou-se atualizar o modelo proposto por Berlato (2015), no qual tipologias foram delineadas para os brasileiros a partir de uma amostra de casais dual career ex-estudantes de uma universidade estadual paulista.
