Consuption in the life of teenagers from different socioeconomic classes: insights for the field of Marketing in Brazil

Resumo: The capitalism system grouth starts from production and consumption in excess. This situation involves serious implications for the future of the planet. That system values image, symbols, fashion, hyper-reality and the exchange value. marketing plays a preponderant role in such context through strategies which increases consumption expectations of different segments in society. That is the case of teenagers with or without purchasing power. considering the importance of critical studies in the Brazilian context, we analyzed these actors’ behavior concerning such aspects and we reflected on the strategies used to motivate consumption. In this sense, we’ve accomplished a qualitative study, using multiple investigation techniques with 15 teenagers who have participated in this study. This investigation revealed teenagers’interests and their vulnerability dealing with marketing strategies of their favourite products. Such verification clears the way towards a wide discussion on this subject.

Os riscos dessa concepção são visíveis para o futuro do planeta. Esse sistema valoriza a imagem, os símbolos, a moda, a hiper-realidade e o valor de troca. O marketing exerce papel preponderante nesse contexto, mediante estratégias que elevam as expectativas de consumo de diferentes segmentos da sociedade, como é o caso dos adolescentes com e sem poder aquisitivo. Entendendo a relevância da realização de estudos críticos no contexto brasileiro, analisamos o comportamento desses atores diante de tais aspectos e refletimos a respeito da contribuição de estratégias que incentivam o consumo. Nesse sentido, realizamos um estudo qualitativo, utilizando múltiplas técnicas de investigação, com a participação de 15 adolescentes. As informações obtidas revelam o interesse e a vulnerabilidade dos adolescentes no que diz respeito às estratégias de marketing dos produtos que costumam ou desejam consumir.
