The present article aims to contextualize the economic crisis that sugarcane sector is passing through in Brazil in the last years emphasizing the risk management’s techniques used in agricultural commodities. This study is based on quantitative and qualitative presentation and analysis of the main economic aspects occurring in the sugarcane sector since 2003. The highlights of this article are: i) contextualization of sugarcane’s sector crisis in Brazil in recent years; ii) Quantitative and qualitative analysis of key industry’s data series; iii) Analysis of the principals techniques used for risk management in commodity sector companies; iv) Case Study.
