Resumo: This textis intended to present a basis for the discussion on the longevity of micro andsmall companies, denoted here by the Brazilian acronym MPEs, service providers based on the partnership withbig companies. The focus is put on the organizational dimensions space: structureand processes, behavior, strategy, technology/innovation and environment. Thereason for such choice is twofold: first, as a way of reviving the Brazilian discussionsabout the importance of the longevity of the MPEs as an agent of the economydynamics; second, to demystify its management functionality and indicatorsbased on its longevity. This study is immersed on the dimension manifolds, asfactors that aggregate a collection of variables, discussed under the light oftheory reference of the social-technological system, life-cycle analysis,complexity 'logic' and epistemological evidences of organizational dimensions,accounting for marginal tangible and intangible factors of thelong-living MPEs’ management. The methodological strategy was based in qualitativeand quantitative survey , with descriptive investigation, explicit and applied,using instruments for primary and secondary data analysis and field research with application of interviews and questionnaires.Eighty two service providers MPEs with longer than five years longevity and partnersof big companies were investigated. After the data analysis it is clear thatthe organizational dimension interfere in a synergistic way in the companies’life. The results also support that the partnership with the big companyexplains in a large amount the longevity of the MPEs. At the end of the study, itis presented a frame with the management indicators of long-living MPEs byorganizational dimension.

O enfoque delineia-se no espaço das dimensões organizacionais: estrutura e processos, comportamento, estratégias, tecnologia / inovação e ambiente. Tal escolha deu-se em função de duas razões: a primeira enquanto uma forma de recolocar na agenda de discussões brasileiras a questão da importância da vida longa às MPEs como agente dinamizador da economia; e a segunda, desmistificar a funcionalidade e indicadores de gestão a partir de sua longevidade. O estudo faz uma imersão diante dos desdobramentos das dimensões, com fatores que agregam um arcabouço de variáveis, discutidas à luz do referencial teórico do sistema sócio-técnico, estudos de ciclo de vida, na 'lógica' da complexidade e nas evidências epistemológicas das dimensões organizacionais, creditando fatores tangíveis e intangíveis à margem de práticas da gestão das MPEs longevas. A estratégia metodológica sustentou-se em uma pesquisa quali-quantitativa, com investigação descritiva, explicativa e aplicada, com instrumentos de análise de dados primários e secundários e pesquisa de campo com aplicação de entrevistas e questionários. Foram pesquisadas 82 MPEs prestadoras de serviços com longevidade a partir de cinco anos e parceira da grande empresa. Após a análise dos dados evidenciou-se que as dimensões organizacionais alteram de forma sinérgica na vida dessas empresas. Os resultados comprovam ainda, que a parceria com a grande empresa explica significativamente na longevidade das MPEs. Ao final o estudo apresenta-se um quadro de indicadores de gestão das MPEs longevas, por dimensão organizacional.porMPEsLongevityMicro e pequenas description This textis intended to present a basis for the discussion on the longevity of micro andsmall companies, denoted here by the Brazilian acronym MPEs, service providers based on the partnership withbig companies. The focus is put on the organizational dimensions space: structureand processes, behavior, strategy, technology/innovation and environment. Thereason for such choice is twofold: first, as a way of reviving the Brazilian discussionsabout the importance of the longevity of the MPEs as an agent of the economydynamics; second, to demystify its management functionality and indicatorsbased on its longevity. This study is immersed on the dimension manifolds, asfactors that aggregate a collection of variables, discussed under the light oftheory reference of the social-technological system, life-cycle analysis,complexity 'logic' and epistemological evidences of organizational dimensions,accounting for marginal tangible and intangible factors of thelong-living MPEs’ management. The methodological strategy was based in qualitativeand quantitative survey , with descriptive investigation, explicit and applied,using instruments for primary and secondary data analysis and field research with application of interviews and questionnaires.Eighty two service providers MPEs with longer than five years longevity and partnersof big companies were investigated. After the data analysis it is clear thatthe organizational dimension interfere in a synergistic way in the companies’life. The results also support that the partnership with the big companyexplains in a large amount the longevity of the MPEs. At the end of the study, itis presented a frame with the management indicators of long-living MPEs byorganizational dimension.
