The aim of the present study is to analyze the press position newspapers Folha de S. Paulo and O Estado de S. Paulo related to the changes in the political and economic Agenda in Brazil between 1986 and 1989. During the period, the failure of the economic estabilization plans, the creation of the new Constitution (with implications for the relation between State and market) and the presidential campaing were object of a great ideological and political struggle, in the context of deep international changes mainly related to the decline of socialism and to the hegemony of the neo-liberal view. Due to its power of spreading ideas, the press acts as a private vehicle of hegemony through the creation of images and use of rhetoric, what makes the press a privileged political actor, since, moreover, it formulates and conveys highly ideological contents.
