Resumo: Caatinga is an exclusively Brazilian biome that unfortunately is one of the most threatened in the world. Although most of the population of the semi-arid region depends on it to survive and get its livelihood. This article aimed to evaluate the use of native medicinal plants in forty rural communities located inside the Conservation Unit Tatu-Bola, in the municipality of Lagoa Grande (PE). The survey was conducted through interviews with semi-structured questionnaires applied to 111 informants during March, May, June and August of 2016. Fifty-nine native species belonging to 26 botanical families were reported, of which 14 were endemic to Caatinga, being Fabaceae and Euphorbiaceae more preminent families. The predominant habit of the species was arboreal, while the most used parts were stem bark and bast, which tea was the main form of use. Regarding the quantitative aspects, the use value, the informant consensus factor and the relative importance of the mentioned species were determined. This survey revealed the wide knowledge about medicinal plants by the inhabitants in the communities of Lagoa Grande and the importance of registering it, as it may have implications for conservation and bioprospecting studies and in the development of natural medicines.
