Resumo: The great potential of Brazilian biodiversity encourages the development of innovative products. In this arena, international instruments and national policies promote the importance of traditional medicine. However, few studies discuss the agricultural production of medicinal plants. This study aims to understand the current landscape on medicinal plants research in the Rio de Janeiro state, based on research groups reported on CNPq Research Groups Directory. The work also seeks scientific production of these research groups, especially on the issue of medicinal plants agricultural production. The results show 111 research groups in a period of 34 years, indicating a tendency of continuous and strong growth. Research groups are situated in 16 research and educational institutions, mostly governmental organizations. Research groups are predominantly from Biological Sciences and Exact and Earth Sciences, and published 656 scientific articles about medicinal plants. Only 54 articles dealt with agricultural production of medicinal plants. Our data demonstrate that there is a significant number of research groups in Rio de Janeiro state that focus on the subject, in all areas of knowledge. It shows that medicinal plants theme has aroused great interest in the scientific community. However, the small number of scientific articles may compromise the sector's sustainability.

Neste sentido, instrumentos internacionais e políticas nacionais impulsionam a importância da medicina tradicional. Centro de Inovação em Biodiversidade e Saúde - Farmanguinhos/Fiocruz2015-06-29info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdftext/htmlhttps://revistafitos.far.fiocruz.br/index.php/revista-fitos/article/view/21210.5935/2446-4775.20150005Revista Fitos; Vol. 9 No. 1 (2015); 45-54Revista Fitos; Vol. 9 Núm. 1 (2015); 45-54Revista Fitos; v. 9 n. 1 (2015); 45-542446-47751808-9569reponame:Revista Fitosinstname:Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (FIOCRUZ)instacron:FIOCRUZporhttps://revistafitos.far.fiocruz.br/index.php/revista-fitos/article/view/212/pdf_56https://revistafitos.far.fiocruz.br/index.php/revista-fitos/article/view/212/1121Copyright (c) 2016 Revista Fitos Eletrônicainfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessAssis, Maria AparecidaMorelli-Amaral, Valério FranciscoPimenta, Fabricia Pires2022-08-17T13:40:22Zoai:ojs.revistafitos.far.fiocruz.br:article/212Revistahttps://revistafitos.far.fiocruz.br/index.php/revista-fitos/PUBhttp://revistafitos.far.fiocruz.br/index.php/revista-fitos/oairevistafitos@far.fiocruz.br || eugenio.telles@far.fiocruz.br2446-47752446-4775opendoar:2022-08-17T13:40:22Revista Fitos - Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (FIOCRUZ)false
