Resumo: The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge of health professionals about the use of medicinal and herbal plants in Family Health Units in a municipality in the Recôncavo da Bahia region. It was a field and descriptive research with a quantitative approach, in which 60 medium and higher education health professionals participated. Data were collected through a questionnaire sent via whatsapp in the period between august and september 2020. Statistical analysis of variables through absolute and relative frequencies, bivariate analysis by Pearson's Chi-Square test by the R program. most professionals interviewed were predominantly female (78.2%). It was observed that most professionals are unaware of the policies related to medicinal plants and herbal medicines. Thus, it can be concluded that, in order to implement this practice in health services, it is necessary to invest in professional training and institutionalization of a protocol aimed at including the topic related to medicinal plants and herbal medicines in Primary Care.

Tratou-se de pesquisa de campo e descritiva de abordagem quantitativa, no qual participaram 60 profissionais de saúde de nível médio e superior. Os dados foram coletados por meio de questionário enviados via whatsapp no período entre agosto e setembro de 2020. A análise estatística das variáveis através de frequências absolutas e relativas, análise bivariada pelo teste Qui-Quadrado de Pearson pelo programa R. Os resultados apontaram que a maioria dos profissionais entrevistados foi predominantemente do gênero feminino (78,2%). Observou-se que a maioria dos profissionais desconhecem as políticas relacionadas plantas medicinais e fitoterápicos.
