Resumo: This study sought to identify the knowledge of the endemic control agents, about sanitation and environment in the city of Natal, capital of Rio Grande do Norte in 2012. This is an exploratory, descriptive and quantitative approach performed with 209 agents from the Municipal Program for Dengue Control. The data collection was conducted through a questionnaires, and tabulated in program Statistical Package for Social Sciences, with univariate analyze of frequency, average and standard deviation. The results show that 50,0% of agents are made up of women, and 93.3% of these have knowledge regarding the drinking water supply, installation of sanitary sewer and drainage, and garbage collection. Much has adequate knowledge about the disposal of waste (74.1%), and 95.2% said that actions of basic sanitation prevents diseases. Much has adequate knowledge about the disposal of waste (74.1%), and 95.2% claim that the actions of basic sanitation contribute to the prevention of diseases. It should be noted that 86.1% reported adopting contributory measures to environmental preservation. The majority of endemic diseases control (74.0%) presented a degree of knowledge between good and great.

Trata-se de um estudo exploratório de abordagem quantitativa, realizado com 209 agentes do Programa Municipal de Controle da Dengue. Os dados foram coletados por meio de questionários e tabulados no programa Statistical Package for Social Sciences, com análise univariada de frequência, média e desvio padrão. Os resultados apontam que cerca de 50,0% dos agentes são constituídos por mulheres, 93,3% dos quais têm conhecimento a respeito de fornecimento de água potável, implantação de rede coletora de esgoto e drenagem, e coleta de lixo. Boa parte apresenta conheci-mento adequado sobre o destino final de resíduos (74,1%) e 95,2% afirmam que as ações de saneamento básico contribuem para a prevenção de doenças. Ressalta-se que 86,1% referiram adotar medidas contributivas para a preservação ambiental.
