Resumo: The Chikungunya virus is a mosquito-borne alpha virus that causes debilitating fever and arthralgia in humans. Joint pains can last for months or years. It is mainly vectored by Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. In recent years, the virus has gone from relative obscurity to becoming a global threat to public health, affecting millions of people throughout the tropical and subtropical world. The Chikungunya outbreak in the Americas and especially in Brazil changed the epidemiological paradigms of the disease. In this bibliometric analysis, the impact of this epidemic on the scientific production of Chikungunya-related content was evaluated, and how even after the reduction in incidence in the Americas, the scientific production continued to increase , probably because it is a new and emerging disease, it does not have specific therapy or vaccines, and has great chance of chronisation and incapacitate for periods of years.
