Resumo: Introduction: Parkinson’s disease is a gradual chronic disturb, that commonly begins in middle or advanced age, and that generates great disability with the progression of disease. It is a common illness, assaulting 2 in 100 people above 65 years. Objective: To provide an up dated review on diagnostic criteria, importance of the tracking and treatment of the Parkinson’s disease, prioritizing the approach for clinical physician. Methods: Bibliographical revision regarding the diagnosis and treatment of the Parkinson’s disease, through the key-words: diagnosis, treatment and clinical presentation of the Parkinson’s disease, in national and foreign sites research, as well in periodicals and textbooks on the subject. Results: The diagnosis is performed on clinical basis, through the knowledge of the cardinal signals of the illness (tremor, rigidity, loss of the postural reflex and bradykinesia), being the correct diagnosis related to the knowledge of differential diagnosis and of the particularities presented by the carriers. The treatment still generates quarrels, for the choice of the adequate drugs and for the side effects. However selegilina and levodopa still constitute the main therapeutical resource for the illness. Conclusions: Parkinson’s disease is a gradual illness with unknown etiology, and that generates great incapacity to the social life of the patient. The diagnosis, that is essentially clinical, is the first stage in the conduction of the illness, that also includes medical treatment, and physiotherapical, fonoaudiological and psychological support, all in order to guarantee the quality of life of the carrier.
