Resumo: Despite the different new formulations, most hormonal contraceptives still has side effects such as changes in lipid metabolism and increased oxidative damage. These factors are directly related to the development of coronary artery disease. This literature review aims to show experimental evidence performed, emphasizing the possible prevention of dyslipidemic and oxidant effects of hormonal contraceptives from the replacement of vitamins C and E, and thus reducing cardiovascular risk of these women. Literatures were analyzed relating dyslipidemia, oxidation of lipids, cardiovascular risk and the potential of vitamins C and E to combat these changes. It was concluded that the replacement of these vitamins in this cases is effective in reducing both the dyslipidemia as oxidative damage and should be considered of great importance to users of hormnal contraceptoves in reducing cardiovascular risk.
