Resumo: | Family Poxviridae consists of a group virus DNA double strand, and morphology similar to that replicates itself fully in the cytoplasm of host cells. The genera Orthopoxvirus and Parapoxvirus are most important from the standpoint of infection in humans and animals. The genera causing acute vesicular disease, with varying degrees of severity for the host. Infections with these viruses have occurred frequently in the last 10 years in Brazil and have brought great economic losses and serious impact on public health .Here, we evaluated three techniques for poxvirus detection: viral isolation in cell culture, viral isolation in embryonated eggs and electron microscopy. The three techniques present advantages and disadvantages. The question of the choice of which technique to use will depend on the conditions of each laboratory. This will be based on sample demand, personnel training and cost. |

The genera Orthopoxvirus and Parapoxvirus are most important from the standpoint of infection in humans and animals. The three techniques present advantages and disadvantages. The question of the choice of which technique to use will depend on the conditions of each laboratory. This will be based on sample demand, personnel training and cost. As três técnicas apresentam vantagens e desvantagens.
