Resumo: | Introduction: Alzheimer’s Disease consists on a very prevalent degeneration of Central Nervous System, being considered the most common cause of dementia among adults, with great repercussion in the social life of these individuals.Currently, it is a great problem of public health, whereas the gradual aging of the population can be observed. Objective: To review the literature on morphologic origin of Alzheimer’s disease and its functional implication for the individual that develops it. Methods: Databases searching in Medline and PubMed, using the following keywords: Alzheimer’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease physiopathology, Alzheimer’s disease neuropathology. Specialized medical books were also consulted. Summary of the findings: This review allows affirming that still there wasn’t a completely trustworthy hypothesis to explain the origin of disease, even so the â-amyloid hypothesis is most accepted. Neurological losses are closely related with gradual neuronal loss and in accordance with each type of histopatological injury, will have specific clinical manifestations. Conclusions: After one hundred years of its discovery, the Alzheimer’s disease constitutes an enigma for science. It presents morphologic and varied functional aspects and injury of some nervous structures. The hypothesis most accepted is that one that incriminates the â-amyloid protein, even so exists other theories less credited. The neuronal loss, landmark of the illness, results narrowly on the activities and life quality of the bearer, due to resulting focal deficits. |
