Pulmonary sequestration: Pediatric surgery point of view

Resumo: Purpose: To present the vision of a pediatric surgeon in front of a case of a female 2 year old patient with left extralobar pulmonary sequestration who received different information regarding the handling of the same. Methods: Recent bibliographic research in Scielo and Pubmed databases. Point of view: Removal of pulmonary sequestration with symptoms is mandatory and should be done by videothoracoscopy. Asymptomatic pulmonary sequestration is still controversial, although the balance of recent scientific information is that of removing the lung mass without function and with dysplasia. In this sense the removal must be done by assisted video surgery. The embolization or fulguration of the aberrant nourishing artery is gaining space. This procedure can be performed intra-uterus when the diagnosis is made in prenatal care.

This procedure can be performed intra-uterus when the diagnosis is made in prenatal care.Objetivo: Apresentar a visão de um cirurgião pediátrico frente a caso de paciente de dois anos com sequestro pulmonar extralobar esquerdo que recebeu informações diferentes quanto ao manuseio do mesmo. Métodos: Pesquisa bibliográfica recente nas bases de dados Scielo e Pubmed. Ponto de vista: A remoção do sequestro pulmonar com sintomas é mandatória e deve ser feita por vídeo toracoscopia. O sequestro pulmonar assintomático apresenta manuseio ainda controverso, entretanto o equilíbrio da informação científica recente é de remoção da massa pulmonar sem função e com displasia. Nesse sentido a remoção deve ser feita por cirurgia vídeo assistida. A embolização ou fulguração da artéria nutridora aberrante vem ganhando espaço. Esse procedimento pode ser realizado intra-útero quando o diagnóstico é feito no pré-natal.
