Resumo: Ethnoveterinary is the science that studies the uses and practices of medicinal plants in the treatment and prevention of animal diseases and, Ethnobotanyis responsible for the identification of these plants. The increasing interestin plants used in folk medicine shows the importance of the recovery and study of medicinal plants used in ethnoveterinary. It is relevant to take into account the empiric uses of medicinal plants that culminated in modern medicine, proving their effectiveness when used under the assistance of a veterinarian. Therefore, the aim of this study is to show the importance of the medicinal plants used in ethnoveterinary, as they are inexpensive, easy to handle and to use.

A Etnoveterinária é a ciência que estuda as práticas de utilização das plantas medicinais no tratamento e prevenção das afecções que acometem os animais, enquanto a Etnobotânica se encarrega de fazer a identificação correta dessas plantas. O crescente interesse por plantas utilizadas na medicina popular mostra a importância do resgate e o estudo das plantas medicinais usadas em Etnoveterinária. Deve se levar em consideração as utilizações empí­ricas que culminam na medicina moderna, e que comprovam a eficácia das mesmas quando utilizadas com o acompanhamento de um médico veterinário.
