Resumo: Conventional farming uses chemical pesticides and fertilizers to achieve good productivity, disregarding the fact that these products can be harmful to the environment and human health. In contrast, organic agriculture brings the concept that it is possible to have a sustainable production using alternative ways to fight diseases and pests, valuing human lives and the environment. This study aimed to verify, on site, the main difficulties of the organic production in the São Paulo Metropolitan area. Each area was surveyed regarding animal and plant production, environmental and health issues. Results indicated that organic production is feasible and friendlier to the environment and to human health.

Results indicated that organic production is feasible and friendlier to the environment and to human health.
