Changes in the way we act, in the sense of adopting everyday practices that demonstrate respect and concern for nature, have come together with the concept of sustainable development. In this context of changes, public institutions are inserted, especially, Higher Education Institutions (HEI), because they have a fundamental role in the process of developing society on sustainability issues. In this sense, this study aims to investigate the socio-environmental responsibility practices contemplated in the management of the Serra Talhada Academic Unit of the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco, UAST / UFRPE, based on management and operational practices related to an Environmental Management System, to know the perception of the servants about such practices. The research adopted a qualitative and quantitative approach and is configured as an applied and descriptive nature. For the data collection, questionnaires were used. As a result, the concern with the socio-environmental issue of the institution could be evidenced, even if in an embryonic way. However, the perception of the staff differs with regard to the institutional position regarding social and environmental issues, especially regarding the environmental management system, suggesting the need for a better dissemination of existing actions in the UAST.
