Resumo: Sustainability has been present in debates in almost every field of society, and many have been critical of the contradictions found in sustainable development proposals. Based on the argument that the shared economy can be an alternative to achieve sustainability, this study aimed to analyze the perception of users of shared bikes about sustainability. In order to do so, we sought to understand the context of shared bike focusing on a project called Bicicletar that aims the sustainable urban mobility in Fortaleza - Brazil. The research was based on the qualitative and descriptive approach and was conducted through semi-structured interviews with cyclists in the process of collecting the bicycle at the sharing station. Data analysis is based on the technique of content analysis. The results show that sustainability is still strongly associated with environmental issues, despite the three dimensions of sustainability: economic, social and environmental. In addition, the meanings attributed to this practice are varied, demonstrating consumer engagement in the project. The research contributes to understand the context of sustainable mobility from the consumers, who for various issues can play a secondary role in the construction of transition to sustainability in this context.
