Introduction: Children and adolescents have long been known to experience sexual violence in their own parent circle, so that instead of parents and family members protecting them, they are responsible for such atrocities, violating their rights and destroying their dreams, and severely impair the mental health of the victim. Sexual abuse is one of the most difficult types of violence to be identified and dealt with, as the offender often appears very close to the victim and looks completely harmless. Generally, the child victim of sexual abuse, especially in his family environment, develops a loss of self-esteem, becomes an introvert, loses confidence in others, even considering suicide. Objective: This study aims to reflect on sexual abuse against children and adolescents, specifying those committed in the family environment, as well as characterize sexual violence, analyze its incidence and identify the profile of victims of abuse, typifying its aspects. Methodology: In order to achieve the objective proposed in the study, a qualitative and descriptive literature review was conducted about the studied area, as well as the concepts of terms used throughout the work, based on articles related to child sexual abuse in the study. family environment and in books in this area. Considerations: The researched literature pointed out that although there are specific laws to protect children and adolescents, the occurrence of such violence continues at a frightening frequency, dealing with a complex dynamic involving psychological, social and legal aspects. There are different types and definitions of sexual abuse, and it is of prime importance to understand the various consequences of the child's poor development. Reported cases are of great importance, as it is through them that this type of violence gains visibility. It is up to the health professionals, especially psychologists, to find ways to mitigate the negative effects of traumatic experience, so that it is possible to help the abused child and the family. Since child sexual abuse should be approached as a matter of child rights, as both a physical and a mental health problem. It is also noted that there is a growing incidence of child sexual abuse in the intra and extra-family environment, justifying the need for greater understanding and dissemination of the subject.
