AN ANALYSIS ON INSECURITY AND EXISTENTIAL FEAR IN CONTEMPORARYITY

Introduction: There was a time when concepts were sound: ideas, ideologies and relationships. There were various kinds of thoughts that shaped the way people interacted. Already in the twentieth century, in the face of the evolution of technology with the wars and politics in constant confrontation, this solid world fell and postmodernity arises. The postmodern world brings with it the fluidity of liquid, ignoring divisions and obstacles, taking on a new mold and reshaping spaces, fluidizing the certainties, beliefs and practices of the solid world. Objective: To reflect on insecurity and existential fear in the contemporary world and its implications on relationships. Methodology: This work was carried out through a review of Zyngmunt Bauman's “Liquid Times”. Considerations: The author shows that some changes are currently occurring, which create a new environment for the activities of individual life leading to a series of unprecedented challenges, including insecurity and existential fear. He has used the term 'liquefaction' or 'fluidity' as an appropriate metaphor to manifest the dynamism of the process of transformation between modernity and the present moment. In a society being viewed and treated as a 'network' rather than a structure, what is perceived is relationships becoming increasingly temporary. Reading Liquid Times helps us to find expressive elements for the progress of the human and social sciences, improving our reflective analysis regarding the possibility of the nation state's rescue from this current context of vulnerability and weakening inter-human ties. Bauman offers us a thought-provoking reflection that helps to think about contemporary problems, specifically about existential insecurity in modernity. It is considered here a work written with solid argumentation, however it is noteworthy that the analysis of the work depends on prior knowledge of the content due to the fact that it has a very specific language.
