Introduction: The work of psychotherapy involves constant reflection and search for appropriate ways to understand and intervene in the clinical situation, this includes both the study of the human being, as the search for interventional refinement. In this scenario, we highlight the hermeneutic perspective that offers a way of understanding the human as well as a practical direction for psychotherapy. Objective: The aim is to investigate the contributions of hermeneutics to contemporary psychotherapeutic clinical practice. Methodology: To this end, the book “Hermeneutics in the clinical situation: the unveiling of uniqueness through the personal language” was written by Gilberto Safra. Considerations: Safra demonstrates to be a syncretic and erudite author, establishing interlocutions with several authors in order to explain an efficient understanding for clinical practice, being highlighted in his work Heidegger and Husserl. For Safra, clinical practice is the work of suspending the veil of uniqueness through the investigation of personal language - a concept proposed by Safra - which is nothing more than the recognition of the uniqueness of the speaking subject. This precedes task listing and instruction, and marks psychotherapy as an invitation to self-understanding, autonomy and authenticity. Armed with academic knowledge, desire to contribute and clinical experience, the author works a panorama that involves the Being and sometimes emphasizes the contribution of the entity, always with the notion that there are peculiarities that have not yet been noticed. The sequence presented in the book makes it easy to understand the complexity of the “personal language” concept. Safra works with existentialist philosophy, running through dialectics, phenomenology, while still enjoying works such as Winnicott, Edith Stein and Carl Rogers, especially when dealing with the belief in the client's powers, establishing strong connections between his reflections and clinical psychology. Thus, the work contributes to the study and practice of psychotherapy by addressing students and professionals who seek a broad knowledge about the human.
