Resumo: International organizations, as well as health managers, historically use child mortality as an analysis parameter of the population’s health quality. This study aimed to identify the profile of child mortality in the four health macro-regions of the state of Paraná, Brazil, in the years from 2012 to 2014. This is a retrospective study of quantitative approach, with simple descriptive analysis of secondary data from the Live Births and Mortality Information Systems. The results showed the existence of regional differences regarding the pathway and gestational age of birth, Apgar score at birth, and maternal education. The macro-regions that were less suitable indicators were the Northwest and the West ones. It is believed that they should be better investigated for confirmations, and for planning of interventions to reduce the risk of child deaths. Even though there are limits for research with secondary data, the picture presented can support regional and state managers, as well as encourage new research.
