Grupos Educacionais. Fusões e Aquisições. Teoria Neo-Institucional. ABSTRACT The objective of this article is to describe and analyze the concentration movements in the Brazilian higher education market through the epistemological prism of the Neo-Institutional theory. In the last fifteen years, this market has experienced a considerable number of mergers, acquisitions, and IPOs, taking as reference the higher education institutions (IES) listed on B3 S.A. In addition, we provide a contextualization of the impacts of FIES and ProUni in this market. The information base is composed of the financial statements of the four publicly traded HEIs filed with the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM), which comprise the fiscal years ending between 2012 and 2020. In the study, the indexes net revenue, gross margin, and adjusted EBITDA margin were analyzed. The results of the research show that IES year after year have been growing financially, which will continue to strengthen the concentration of the segment. The analyses may help in the construction of important contributions for future research on the higher education market in Brazil. Keywords: Higher Education Market, Educational Groups. Mergers and Acquisitions. Neo-Institutional Theory. |
