RESUMO Sertão é o tema deste artigo e faz o cruzamento entre o discurso histórico e o discurso ficcional, utilizando, para isso, pensadores da historiografia brasileira e o romance Seara vermelha (1946), do escritor Jorge Amado, para cumprir a proposição. Dono de uma obra importante na história da literatura brasileira, Jorge Amado dedicou grande parte da sua ficção a temas variados, mas tendo como objeto central a Bahia e em especial a Cidade do Salvador. Por isso, do pouco que explora o tema sertão na história brasileira, Seara vermelha é o romance que evidencia o espaço historicamente conhecido como sertão, vocábulo associado à seca, fome, miséria. Após apresentar os aportes teóricos da discussão, fazemos uma exposição da historiografia pertinente ao tema sertão para, finalmente, identificar no romance amadiano as representações sobre sertão. Palavras-chave: Sertão. Jorge Amado. ABSTRACT  Inland is the subject of this article and makes the crossing between the historical speech and the fictional speech, using for this thinkers of the Brazilian historiography and the Seara vermelha novel (1946) of the writer Jorge Amado, to fulfill the proposal. Owner of an important productionin the history of Brazilian literature, Jorge Amado dedicated to great part of its fiction the varied subjects, but having as central object the special Bahia and in the City of Salvador. Therefore, of the little that explores the subject inland in the Brazilian history, Seara vermelha is the novel that evidences the known space historically as hinterland, word associated drought, hunger, misery. After presenting theoretical bases of the discussion, we make an exposition of the pertinent historiography to the subject hinterland for, finally, identifying in the amadiano novel the representations about inland.  Keywords: Inland.
