Resumo: Aristotle’s use of pre-existing opinions or éndoxa is a recurring modus operandi throughout his corpus. It can be seen that, in general, Aristotle draws on the views already established when he starts his inquiry into a certain topic, especially when the topic has been the subject of reflection by philosophers who preceded him. In this paper, we propose to study Aristotle’s use of opinions in On Nobility. The thesis that we defend is that Aristotle does not have in this work a radically different methodology from that used in his esoteric works; therefore, as in the case of the latter, the opinions are the starting point and the epistemological basis on which his investigation is based.
