Resumo: This paper aims to display the role played by sense-perception in the attainment of epistéme.The senses (aisthéseis) channel the flux of sensations (aisthánomena) to the soul, which transforms them into sensibles (aisthéta), thereby making possible the interpretation and judgment by means of which thought (dianóeisthai, diánoia) grasps the inner and outer worlds. Epistéme can thus be attained through the calculation and comparison of sense-experiences. But this result is only possible within the context of anámnesis. Recollection occurs when a given senseperception evokes a “similar” (hómoion) and previously grasped notion that is then responsible for its subsequent conceptualization and interpretation.

Os sentidos, ou sensações (aisthéseis), canalizam os fluxos sensíveis (aisthánomena) para a alma, que os transforma em sensíveis (aistéta), possibilitando a conceitualização e interpretação pelas quais o pensamento (dianóeisthai, diánoia) capta os mundos interior e exterior. A epistéme poderá então ser atingida por meio do cálculo e comparação das experiências sensíveis. Este resultado só é, porém, possível no quadro da anámnesis.
