Temporal changes in land use and cover at the mouth of the Cocó River, Fortaleza-Ceará

Resumo: The growth of the urban area towards the east sector of Fortaleza, motivated mainly by tourism, brought impacts to the ecosystems and communities that inhabit the surroundings of the mouth of Cocó River. This article objectively analyzes the land cover use process in the region in the years 1985, 2002 and 2021. As specific objectives, it seeks to quantify the land use and occupation units and generate maps with the temporal evolution for the area of study between the periods of 1985-2002, 2002-2021 and 1985-2021. Through the Mapbiomas project, maps and statistics of urban evolution were generated in a GIS environment. Among the 9 remaining land use and cover units, the Urban Area was the one that grew the most: between 1985 and 2021, a total of 733.96% (1.25 km² advancing), making over the natural use and cover units from the ground, such as Mangrove, Restinga, Apicum, Beach, Dune or Sand. The results point to the need for the public power to protect the urban expansion of the region, in order to conserve the ecosystems and the ways of life of the local communities. Este artículo tiene como objetivo analizar el proceso de uso de la cobertura del suelo en la región en los años 1985, 2002 y 2021. Como objetivos específicos se busca cuantificar las unidades de uso y ocupación del suelo y generar mapas con la evolución temporal para el área de estudio. entre los periodos 1985-2002, 2002-2021 y 1985-2021. A través del proyecto Mapbiomas se generaron mapas y se realizaron estadísticas sobre la evolución urbana en un entorno SIG. Entre las 9 unidades de uso y cobertura de suelo analizadas, el Área Urbana fue la que más creció: entre 1985 y 2021, un total de 733,96% (1,25 km²), avanzando sobre las unidades de uso y cobertura de suelo natural, como Manglar, Restinga, Apicum, Playa, Duna o Areal. Los resultados apuntan a la necesidad de que las autoridades públicas planifiquen adecuadamente la expansión urbana en la región, con el fin de conservar los ecosistemas y las formas de vida de las comunidades locales. Como objetivos específicos, se busca quantificar as unidades de uso e ocupação da terra e gerar mapas com a evolução temporal para a área de estudo entre os períodos de 1985-2002, 2002-2021 e 1985-2021. Por meio do projeto Mapbiomas, foram gerados mapas e realizadas estatísticas da evolução urbana em ambiente SIG. Entre as 9 unidades de uso e cobertura da terra analisadas, a Área Urbana foi a que mais cresceu: entre 1985 e 2021, um total de 733,96% (1,25 km²), avançando sobre as unidades naturais de uso e cobertura do solo, como Mangue, Restinga, Apicum, Praia, Duna ou Areal. Os resultados apontam a necessidade do poder público planejar adequadamente a expansão urbana da região, de modo a conservar os ecossistemas e os modos de vida das comunidades locais.
