SUSTAINABILITY OF THE MINERAL INDUSTRY OF MUNICIPALITY OF PEDRA LAVRADA-PB: A STUDY FROM THE USE OF ISM-SUSTAINABILITY INDEX OF MINING

Resumo:  The objective in this research is to analyze the level of sustainability of the mineral  industry of municipality of Pedra Lavrada-Pb, from of Mining Sustainabilty Index-MSI, proposed by Viana(2012), with the use of indicators in the economical, social and environmental dimensions , with monitoring in three companies of higher mining representativity to city, as well as communities analyzing perception  around. The research developed was of nature exploratory and descriptive, of nature qualitative-quantity, it is guided beneath the method of study of case, Field research and observation non-participant. How results it was verified that MSI of mineral activity in Pedra Lavrada achieved the index of 0,38 that classifies like unsustainable. Some companies, however, got to stay above of average, however , it presents like unsustainable, in three dimensions. In spite of importance of activity to municipality, there are not actions that provide the development in this activity on precepts of sustainability.

In spite of importance of activity to municipality, there are not actions that provide the development in this activity on precepts of sustainability.Esta pesquisa tiene por objetivo analizar el nivel de sostenibilidad de la industria mineral del municipio de Pedra Lavrada-PB, a partir del Índice de sostenibilidad de la Minería –ISM, propuesto por Viana (2012), con el uso de indicadores en las dimensiones económicas, sociales y ambientales, con comparación en tres empresas de minería de mayor representatividad para el municipio, como también analizando la percepción de las comunidades en torno. La pesquisa desarrollada tiene carácter exploratorio y descriptivo, de naturaleza cualitativa-cuantitativa, está orientada bajo el método de estudio de caso, con pesquisa de campo y observación no participante .Como resultados se constató que el ISM de la actividad mineral en el municipio de Pedra Lavrada-PB alcanzó el índice de 0,38 que se clasifica como insostenible. Algunas empresas, mientras tanto, consiguieron quedarse arriba de esa media, sin embargo, se muestran insostenibles en las tres dimensiones. A pesar de la importancia de la actividad para el municipio, no existen acciones que propicien el desarrollo de esta actividad en los preceptos de la sostenibilidad.Esta pesquisa tem por objetivo analisar o nível de sustentabilidade da indústria mineral do município de Pedra Lavrada – PB, a partir do Índice de Sustentabilidade da Mineração - ISM, proposto por Viana (2012), com o uso de indicadores nas dimensões econômicas, sociais e ambientais, com aferição em três empresas de mineração de maior representatividade para o município, como também analisando a percepção das comunidades no entorno. A pesquisa desenvolvida tem caráter exploratório e descritivo, de natureza quali-quantitativa, está orientada sob o método de estudo de caso, com pesquisa de campo e observações não participantes. Como resultados, constatou-se que o ISM da atividade mineral no município de Pedra Lavrada– PB alcançou o índice de 0,38, que classifica-se como insustentável. Algumas empresas, entretanto, conseguiram ficar acima dessa média, mesmo assim, mostram-se insustentáveis nas três dimensões.
