Resumo: This works aims at discussing the notion of speech community and its implications over the sociolinguistic research, showing that it (the notion) can be enlarged, and that other theoretical constructs can possibly contribute within a variationist research, as the ones directed to the social webs and communities of practice. In order to reach that goal, it was used a methodology based on a bibliographic research.
