Resumo: This article deals with the rise of the “neo-coups”. These are the processes of institutional rupture of a new kind, which have been occurring notably in Latin America in the last decade. According to the literature that has been trying to understand the phenomenon, the most notable cases would be those of Honduras in 2009, Paraguay in 2012 and Brazil in 2016. This allows us to suggest a markedly conservative approach taken by the “neocoups”. The article suggests the concept of “institutional coup” as the most appropriate to define the phenomenon.
