Resumo: This article refers to the theme of happiness science and analyzes the perception of happiness among students of the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM), in the 2019-2020 academic semesters. Based on the theoretical contribution of utilitarianism and the instruments for measuring happiness used by positive psychology, a questionnaire with 30 questions was applied in a sample of 140 university students from different higher education courses of the same institution.  The students answered questions about: perceptions about personal life, emotional health and social relationships. The content of the information collected may indicate the level of happiness and mental health at the time. The collected data were quantitatively grouped in the SPSS software® so that it could facilitate the analysis and interpretation of the answers. The results generally point to a significant percentage of unhappiness among the interviewees, and many use medications to control anxiety and stress.

A partir del aporte teórico del utilitarismo y los instrumentos de medición de la felicidad utilizados por la psicología positiva, se aplicó un cuestionario con 30 preguntas en una muestra de 140 estudiantes universitarios de diferentes cursos de educación superior de la misma institución. Los estudiantes respondieron preguntas sobre: percepciones sobre la vida personal, la salud emocional y las relaciones sociales. El contenido de la información recopilada puede indicar el nivel de felicidad y salud mental en ese momento. Los datos recopilados se agruparon cuantitativamente en el software SPSS® para facilitar el análisis y la interpretación de las respuestas. Los resultados generalmente apuntan a un porcentaje significativo de infelicidad entre los entrevistados, y muchos usan medicamentos para controlar la ansiedad y el estrés.O presente artigo refere-se ao tema da ciência da felicidade e analisa a percepção da felicidade entre os estudantes da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM), nos semestres letivos de 2019-2020. A partir da contribuição teórica do utilitarismo e dos instrumentos de mensuração da felicidade utilizados pela psicologia positiva, aplicou-se um questionário com 30 questões em uma amostragem de 140 estudantes universitários de diferentes cursos superiores da mesma instituição. Os alunos responderam perguntas sobre: percepções sobre a vida pessoal, saúde emocional e relações social. O conteúdo das informações coletadas pode indicar o nível de felicidade e saúde mental em que os participantes se encontravam no momento. Os dados coletados foram agrupados quantitativamente no software SPSS® de forma que pudesse facilitar a análise e interpretação das respostas.
