A PLACE OF MEMORY FOR AFRO-BRAZILIAN CULTURE: : the case of the Instituto de Pesquisas e Estudos Afro-Brasileiros (Ipeafro)

Resumo: Memory is an important tool for building a more equitable history that values the contributions of these groups to society. The Institute for Afro-Brazilian Research and Studies (Ipeafro) is an institution that acts as a decolonial memory centre for ethnic-racial relations. Therefore, we seek to answer the following question: how does the Ipeafro collection constitute a place of memory for Afro-Brazilian culture? It dialogues with the concepts of memory and decoloniality. The corpus of the research covers the material available in the collection, including texts, images and intellectual production, highlighting the trajectory and legacy of Abdias Nascimento in the process of creating Ipeafro. Through its research, studies and documents, Ipeafro seeks to decolonise thought and build a history that glimpses the perspectives and experiences of black people. In addition, Ipeafro promotes awareness-raising and socio-racial training actions, aiming to combat racism and ethnic-identity inequalities, helping, as far as it is concerned, to build a more inclusive narrative about the history of black people in Brazil, while valuing the culture and contributions of Afro-descendants to society. Ipeafro is therefore perceived as a decolonial memory house of resistance and black identity existence, and enables counter-colonial narratives about black people.

Por lo tanto, tratamos de responder a la siguiente pregunta: ¿cómo constituye la colección del Ipeafro un lugar de memoria para la cultura afrobrasileña? Se dialoga con los conceptos de memoria y decolonialidad. El corpus de la investigación abarca el material disponible en la colección, incluyendo textos, imágenes y producción intelectual, destacando la trayectoria y el legado de Abdias Nascimento en el proceso de creación de Ipeafro. A través de sus investigaciones, estudios y documentos, Ipeafro busca descolonizar el pensamiento y construir una historia que vislumbre las perspectivas y experiencias de la población negra. Además, Ipeafro promueve acciones de sensibilización y formación socio-racial, con el objetivo de combatir el racismo y las desigualdades étnico-identitarias, ayudando, en lo que le concierne, a construir una narrativa más inclusiva sobre la historia de los negros en Brasil, valorizando la cultura y las contribuciones de los afrodescendientes a la sociedad. Ipeafro se percibe, por tanto, como una casa de memoria decolonial de resistencia y existencia de la identidad negra, y posibilita narrativas contracoloniales sobre los negros.A memória é uma ferramenta importante para a construção de uma história mais equânime, que valoriza as contribuições desses grupos para a sociedade. O Instituto de Pesquisas e Estudos Afro-Brasileiros (Ipeafro) é uma instituição que atua como casa de memória decolonial para as relações étnico-raciais. Por tal, busca-se responder  a seguinte pergunta: como o acervo do Ipeafro constitui-se como lugar de memória à cultura afro-brasileira? Dialoga-se com os conceitos de memória e decolonialidade. O corpus da pesquisa abrange o material disponível no acervo entre textos, imagens e produção intelectual, destacando a trajetória e legado do Abdias Nascimento no processo de criação do Ipeafro. Por meio de suas pesquisas, estudos e documentos, o Ipeafro busca descolonizar o pensamento e construir uma história que vislumbre as perspectivas e experiências dos negros. Além disso, o Ipeafro promove ações de conscientização e formação sociorracial, objetivando combater o racismo e as desigualdades étnico-identitárias, ajudando, no que lhe concerne, para a construção de uma narrativa mais inclusiva sobre a história do negro no Brasil, ao tempo que valoriza a cultura e as contribuições dos afrodescendentes para a sociedade.
